About Climate United

Climate United will use funding from the EPA under the Inflation Reduction Act to rapidly deploy low- and zero-emission products, technologies, and services to all American communities in order to (1) reduce GHG emissions and other forms of air pollutants; (2) bring direct benefits to American communities in the form of energy security, energy savings, cleaner air, and quality jobs; and (3) transform the capital markets so they can drive an equitable clean energy transition at scale. Calvert Impact, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (“Calvert Impact”), is sole member of Climate United. The successful candidate will be employed by Calvert Impact or one of its subsidiaries.

Job Description:

Climate United Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (“Climate United”), is seeking an experienced professional to lead its community outreach efforts. Located within the broader Community and Justice team of Climate United, the Director must have a deep commitment to equity and passion for mobilizing community networks.

The role requires someone with community engagement and stakeholder management experience, preferably in the context of delivering and creating financial products for Low-Income and Disadvantaged Communities.

This role offers candidates a unique opportunity to make sure that every community in America has the opportunity to participate in the clean energy transition.

Team Description:

The mandate of the Community team at Climate United is to create effective on-ramps for underserved communities for Climate United products and services, ensuring an equitable clean energy transition. This team will ensure that Climate United reaches its equity goals (60% invested in Low-Income and Disadvantaged Communities; 20% rural communities; and 10% in Native communities) through effective community engagement and accountability strategy. The team will center beneficiaries in our program and product design, create and maintain relationships with trusted community infrastructure for capital deployment, and create community feedback loops to both listen and iterate based on shared learning.

Responsibilities:

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead a team of community outreach professionals organizing and executing community engagement strategies focused on understanding the needs of Low-Income and Disadvantaged Communities;

  • Create and oversee the annual community engagement and outreach plan in partnership with the Advisory Council and Climate United’s partners with the support of the Chief Community Officer;

  • Build relationships with community, institutions, and organizations to effectively mobilize community-based networks;

  • Regularly organize and host community and national events, as well as attend stakeholder events around the country to create appropriate feedback loops to Climate United financial products and process;

  • Track community engagement events and shared back outcomes with participating stakeholders;

  • Provide relevant feedback and insight on levels of community engagement in Climate United financial products to ensure accountability at the local level;

  • Participate in early-stage pipeline development and deal structuring for Climate United products in partnership with the Investments team.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate:

  • Has at least 7+ years of experience working in economic or climate-related justice in partnership with Low-Income and Disadvantaged Communities, preferably at the intersection of community and financial service delivery

  • Has experience managing a team in support of broader organizational goals

  • Passionate about the mission and work of Climate United, Calvert Impact, and our commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion

  • Has a customer service orientation (respectful, responsive) in all aspects of work, including with internal and external people and partners

  • Is a self-starter and is able to drive large and complex projects and programs from start to finish in coordination with a broader team

  • Is proficient in Excel, PowerPoint and is systems-minded

  • Is intellectually curious, combined with a good sense of humor, high integrity, and team orientation (“We” vs “I” mentality);

  • Is fluent in English and is an effective and respectful communicator (both oral and written) and listener;

  • Has a positive, “can-do” attitude focused on implementing solutions;

  • Is willing to travel up to 50%, including a variety of conferences and engagement with local communities.
