Position description:

Calvert Impact is seeking an experienced credit professional as Senior Investment Officer for the Community Investment Note portfolio. This individual will be a key member of the Investments team at the organization and integral to the execution on the organization’s portfolio growth strategy. This person will work collaboratively with other members of the Investments team to develop, structure, underwrite, originate, and monitor financing opportunities that scale proven models of success and/or demonstrate new intermediary financing capacity and solutions across the nine impact sectors within the portfolio. As a small investments team we are all generalists to some degree by design, and as such, this person would engage in all impact sectors of the global portfolio, including renewable energy, environmental sustainability, financial inclusion and small business/SME finance, affordable housing, education, and health as needed. This person will report to a Director on the Investments team. The position will require moderate travel and is based in Bethesda, MD.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop high quality and impactful financing opportunities that drive growth of Calvert Impact Capital’s investment portfolio and syndications business by:

    • Identifying financing opportunities that align with sector impact theories of change, portfolio strategy, and risk appetite;

    • Financial structuring to ensure credit risk is mitigated and portfolio deployment is operationally feasible and economic;

    • Credit analysis and underwriting of borrower/fund manager/counterparty and underlying transactions;

    • Cultivation and management of philanthropic and other credit enhancement providers;

  • Identify sector and portfolio credit risk trends, manage actively monitored and/or classified assets, and re-structure troubled loans and implement work-outs as needed;

  • Advance Calvert Impact Capital’s industry leadership through network building, representation at industry conferences, and online and social media communications.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate brings:

  • A commitment to mission and an entrepreneurial and collaborative approach to their work;

  • More than 6 years of experience in debt financing, structured finance (equity investing a plus);

  • Excellent project management and relationship management skills;

  • Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills;

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, while ensuring strong attention to detail;

  • Systems and process minded. Salesforce experience preferred;

  • Collaborative and sharing nature, can-do attitude, and good sense of humor;

  • Ability to travel as necessary.
